Little Sasha grows up in a boarding school and waits for his mother to come for him. Once on the radio he hears the work of S. Rachmaninov, falls in love with music and independently learns to play the piano. In a boarding school, and after - beyond, the hero will face cruelty, unrequited love, crime, and find a way to his vocation - music. But how to stop waiting for mom?
